Alan Salmon is recognized as Canada’s leading analyst in the area of accounting technology. He has over 26 years of business, management systems, education, and journalism experience. As the Canadian Vice-President for K2 Enterprises, he is responsible for the Canadian operations of this international consulting group which provides professional development technology education for CAs, CPAs, and accountants across Canada and the US. He has a degree in Science and an Advanced Teaching Certificate from the University of Toronto.
In addition to his seminar teaching, Alan consults with all of the major accounting technology companies. In the last two years, he has worked with Microsoft, Sage, Intuit Canada, SAP, SYSPRO, Softrak, Fortune 1000, Blue Link, TelPay, and other Canadian technology companies. For the last 11 years, he has been the Chairperson for the “Accounting Technology for the 21st Century” seminar series. This free, one day seminar is delivered twice a year in 14 Canadian cities and provides public accountants, bookkeepers, and consultants with an overview of what’s new in technology for accountants. Over 20,000 accountants have attended one of these technology days.
In addition to his consulting, Alan carries out research on accounting technology. He has published 6 books on accounting software and each year, in conjunction with his K2 partners, he develops a series of comparative tables that contrast the feature sets of accounting software. These tables can be viewed at www.salmon.ca. For the last 20 years, Alan has been writing for the Bottom Line, Canada’s accounting newspaper. His insightful columns on new software and technology are highly rated by his readers.
He is much in demand as a public speaker and travels extensively across Canada and the United States to speak at major computer conferences. He has presented at Comdex, Sage conferences, The Canadian Computer Show, Bottom Line Exhibition, Great Plains Stampede, and the Computer Associates Winter Carnival. He was a featured speaker at the Lions Clubs International World conventions in San Diego and Birmingham, England, where he shared his Internet experiences with over 3,000 Lion members.
Alan lives in Brampton, Ontario, with his wife Nancy. He has four daughters and nine grandchildren. His major hobby is travel, and he has visited over 60 countries and done four around the world journeys. He is active in the community and currently serves as a Director of Rotary eClub One which is an Internet-based Rotary Club. He has received many awards for teaching and service, including a Paul Harris Fellowship, the Canadian Internet Award, and a life membership in Junior Chamber International.
